Understanding Pigmentation: Causes, Symptoms & Treatments at our Clinic
Pigmentation refers to the darkening or discolouration of the skin, as a result of overactivity of the melanin-producing cells. We offer a range of effective treatments to address this concern.
Causes:
Excessive sun exposure (photodamage), hormonal changes (melasma), and trauma to the skin (PIH) can contribute to pigmentation issues.
Symptoms:
Pigmentation can appear in various way. Photodamage tends to appear in patches over sun-exposed areas. Melasma typically has a symmetrical distribution over the forehed, cheeks or upper lip. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) is seen after inflammation or injury to the skin.

Yes, there are plenty of treatment options with minimal discomfort or downtime. These include skincare, aerolase laser & LED-light therapy.
Aerolase utilises an Nd:YAG laser technology (1064nm) with an innovative short pulse duration of 650ms. Similarly to picolaser, this enables a gentle, low-heat producing treatment that is safe for all skin types.
We will recommend you a bespoke skin regimen according to the assessment findings. This may include either medical-grade SkinCeuticals or Alastin products. In some cases, we may consider prescription-grade Obagi products (including the Obagi Nu-derm programme) as medically indicated.
Lifestyle measures are very effective in improving hyperpigmentation concerns. These include direct sun avoidance and daily use of an SPF 30-50. For melasma we recommend avoiding excessive heat and choosing a mineral-based sunscreen.
