Understanding Facial Volume Loss: Causes, Symptoms & Treatments at our Clinic
Facial Volume Loss occurs as a natural part of the ageing process where we start to lose collagen, fat, and bone density as early as our mid-20s. We offer a range of age-appropriate and tasteful treatments to restore volume and rejuvenate your appearance throughout your ageing journey.
Causes:
A combination of fat pad shrinkage, bone resorption, and collagen depletion leads to hollowing and sagging across the face. This process contributes to a gaunt appearance and the deepening of folds such as the nasolabial fold and marionette lines.
Symptoms:
Facial volume loss typically presents as hollowing around the temples, cheeks, and under-eye area. It can also cause a sunken appearance in the midface and a less defined jawline, contributing to an overall aged or tired look.

We take pride in our passion for providing natural, tasteful, age-appropriate and undetectable results throughout all of our treatment modalities. When it comes to volume loss this relies on a “less is more” approach with light-handed “tweakments” by the way of dermal fillers or biostimulators.
As part of the natural ageing process, it is common to see flattening of the cheek and jawline with hollowness to the temples. This often also leads to nasolabial folds and mariette lines. The lip and peri-oral region tends to loose volume as well. Chin and tear-trough hollowness tends to be genetic more often than age-related.
We use only premium market-leading and approved products. For dermal fillers we have a range available in clinic to suit each individual case, our most commonly used dermal filler brand is Restylane.
The tear-trough or under-eye area is complex and often demonstrates a combination of volume loss, skin laxity and possible hyperpigmenation. Depending on the individual circumstances a range of treatment options may be suitable including tear-trough filler, polynucleotide injections, microneedling or medical-grade skincare.
This is a common concern indeed that can significantly impact confidence levels during and after a period of weight loss. The most effective treatment for this type of deflation is usually Sculptra biostimulator, the earlier this is commenced during the weight loss journey the better the outcome in our experience.
